A few tried, tested and trusted, blog links for different perspectives on the violent disturbances in Greece over the past few days. The first two live in Greece and speak Greek though they originate from the US and the UK respectively. The last pair live in the UK and the US but are defined by their Greek heritage and share a love for Greece that goes to the core of their being:

Kat at An American in Athens has written up an interview with a MAT officer, and is going to add to it interviews with an anarchist demonstrator and another protester

Teacher Dude‘s blog include the YouTube clip above, taken in Thessaloniki on the fourth day of the riots

Hellenic Antidote gives us an intellectual perspective with reference to the ancient Greek historian, Thucydides, and the modern philisopher, Castoriadis.

Stavros at My Greek Odyssey mourns the way things used to be, and prays for calm and for Greek society to find its way again.

Contrast these with this cheap report in the Times a couple of days ago which manages to insult all Greeks … and all US Marines with a disappointingly stereotypical view. Helena Smith’s reports in the Guardian seem pale in comparison to the blog reports perhaps because the emotion, the colour, is removed.
