We bought this wooden Noah’s Ark at the Christmas Market in Munich in 2005.  Munich was covered in a blanket of new snow and was the perfect Christmas experience for our children who rarely see snow at Christmas here.  The Old Testament records that Noah’s Ark came to rest on the summit of Mount Ararat as the flood waters went away.  Many people have climbed this extinct volcano, only just inside the border of Turkey and 33km from the Iranian border, looking for vestiges of Noah’s ark.  My husband climbed the mountain shortly before it was closed to climbers in 1992 because of the activities of the PKK.  It was reopened again in 2000 but permission is still needed to climb it.

Da gedachte Gott an Noah und an alle Tiere und an alles Vieh, das mit ihm in dem Kasten war, und ließ Wind auf Erden kommen, und die Wasser fielen.”

“And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters assuaged.”
